PLAZA produced a last-gasp winner in a match of two halves when even the referee was changed at the break.

The Longton Park side and Fegg Hayes AFC decided to referee 45 minutes each of the mid-table Division Three clash after the appointed official failed to show up.

CRUNCH TIME: Fegg Hayes's Sam Dunn, right, is squeezed out by Matt Trevett, left, and a Plaza team-mate. Plaza went on to win the game 5-4.

Fegg Hayes went in at the break 4-2 up after the opening period was overseen by a member of their backroom team.

But Plaza, with one of their club stalwarts now in charge, completed a 5-4 victory in injury time thanks to a Scott Molloy hat-trick.

Fegg Hayes secretary Martin Hammersley said: "Their guy was a good referee, but he did add a lot of time on, and we also had a goal disallowed in the second half too.

"We thought we were fine at half-time, but they've come back strongly. To their credit, they didn't stop and kept coming at us, but we are disappointed not to hold out for a win."

Matt Trevitt and Dave Darks were also on the score sheet for Plaza, who have leapfrogged Fegg Hayes to sit seventh in the table.

Two goals apiece for Jordan Condliffe and Frankie Hughes had put the eighth-placed visitors in command, but they are now finding life tougher than last term.

They tore through Division Four to win promotion by scoring 118 goals in 22 games, while this term they have managed a still-healthy 23 in their first nine matches.

Hammersley, who handed over the managerial reins to Martin Statham and his assistant John Bradshaw in the summer, added: "I don't think there has been much of a jump in standard, but we have a young team.

"We play too much football at times, and it wouldn't hurt to be a little more direct on occasion to make sure we get the right results."

Vodafone still lead the way in the division after beating second-placed AFC Clayton 4-1 on the road.

Clayton were ahead at half-time courtesy of a James Vernon strike, but Vodafone then adopted a more direct route and won as Mose Adegoke and Sean Nixon both bagged braces.

Ball Green WMC are third after a 10-0 walloping of Silver Birch. Lee Roden, Steven Churchill and Ant Hollinshead all grabbed two apiece.

Doubles from Bradley Beale and Kyle Clarke helped fourth-placed Smallthorne see off gutsy Loggerheads 4-2 while The Cuckoo ran out 6-4 winners at Smithfield, with Mischa Haywood netting twice.

Justin Deakin notched a hat-trick for Smithfield, but his side remain bottom with just one win to their name.

Castle Borough thrashed Cobridge Community 7-1 in the Premier League to rise to fourth. Duncan Gacek and Daniel Brown scored twice.

A Ben Dodds hat-trick helped Staff of Life beat Silverdale Athletic 8-3 to climb to the top of Division One. John Hughes (2) was also on target.

John Hart scored four in AFC Alsager's 10-1 thumping of bottom side Biddulph, while Tom Watkins also bagged two in a match Alsager were winning 8-0 at half-time.

Crown Red Street missed the chance to go joint-top as they were held 3-3 at Pool Dole.

In Division Two, Darcys maintained their 100 per cent record after 10 games with a 3-1 win at third-placed Stoke Vans, while Bradeley, in second, demolished White Lion 9-0.

In Division Four, Biddulph Arms saw off promotion rivals Jester 5-2 with two goals from Jordan Goldstraw to stay at the top of the pile.
